Masterclasses Offered in Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn and Rhythm Section Instruments

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Musicians on the Florida Tech campus and across the Space Coast are invited to learn from, and listen to, a cadre of acclaimed guest musicians who will offer masterclasses and a concert on Sunday, Sept. 25.

The classes and concert, hosted by Florida Tech Director of Bands and accomplished trumpeter Joseph Montelione, are free and open to the public.

Masterclasses begin at 1:30 p.m. and will last about 90 minutes. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. at Gleason Performing Arts Center and is expected to last about an hour. Pieces to be performed include a variety of styles, such as classical, jazz and Latin.

The featured guest artists and the locations of their masterclasses are:

  • Doug Michels (pictured above), trumpet, played with Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine; masterclass at Crawford 112
  • Joseph Lovinsky, French horn, played with the U.S. Army Brass Quintet; masterclass at Crawford 401
  • Harry Watters, trombone, played with the U.S. Army Blues band; masterclass at Crawford 403
  • Steve Luciano, guitar, musician at Walt Disney World
  • Mark Neuenschwander, bass, faculty member at University of South Florida

The rhythm section masterclass featuring guitar, drums and bass will be held in Gleason.

Guests planning to attend the trumpet, French horn and trombone classes may bring their instruments, but doing so is not required. Rhythm section attendees are asked not to bring their instruments.

“The Florida Tech music program endeavors to not only connect with the Panther family on campus, but with the surrounding community off-campus and beyond, as well,” Montelione said. “As a way to build bridges between our campus and our off-campus community, we are excited to host this day of masterclasses and outstanding music.”

The event is sponsored by Courtyard by Marriott.
