Meet Rob Himler, Aviation Management ’14

Hello all! My name is Rob Himler, and I was born and raised in Rochester, New York. In the beginning of senior year of high school, I researched the best aviation schools in the United States and all fingers pointed to two schools in Florida. After being accepted into both schools, I took a trip to Florida with my parents and best friend from high school to go on a tour of both campuses. The second tour was Florida Tech, and I instantly knew it was the right school for me. The campus was beautiful and filled with excited students and kind professors. This is an atmosphere that anyone would want to be a part of. My passion for aviation led me to take this amazing journey to Florida Tech and so far this has been the best decision I have made in my life. In May 2014, I will be receiving a diploma for my Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management. I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in aviation, business, professionalism and life-lessons that I will carry with me into a career.

I have been involved with many different clubs, organizations and activities at Florida Tech. I was initiated into Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity in my freshman year of college. Since then, I have held  a number of different officer positions that have significantly enhanced my leadership skills, leading me to become the current president of my chapter. As a chapter, we are involved in many things on campus, including intramural sports, philanthropy events and social events with other fraternities and sororities. TKE has created so many unforgettable experiences with friends that I will have for the rest of my life.

Another club that I have been involved in is Collegiate Aviation Business Executives. It is an aviation-networking club that tours airports, explores airline facilities and attends many industry conferences. Some events that I have participated in include visits to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Valkaria Airshow, Cocoa Beach Airshow, and the NBAA Convention.

I have worked at several different places in my time here at Florida Tech. I began my first job in my sophomore year, working at one of the on-campus eateries called the Rathskeller. Many students work here, performing a wide variety of jobs including delivering pizzas on campus, preparing  food, and making milkshakes – all of which I have done. Another place I have been employed at is the Florida Tech Phone-a-thon. Here, I was given the opportunity to contact alumni and update them with recent news about the school. This was a great chance to network and talk with the many great Florida Tech alumni.

Last year I took a class called Marketing Principles and heard about another opportunity that I didn’t want to pass up. My professor announced that the Florida Tech Marketing and Communications department was hiring student workers, and since I enjoyed the class so much, I decided to apply. I was hired instantly during the interview and began working the next week. On top of working on many fascinating projects over the past year, the department has prepared me to enter the professional world in so many ways. Not only does Florida Tech provide the knowledge for a student’s future, but it also provides countless opportunities to gain experience.

Even though this is my fourth and final undergraduate year at Florida Tech, I still wake up each and every day eager to explore what opportunities, challenges and experiences will come my way.
