Get Out and Push Yourself!

Have you ever sat in your Florida Tech dorm room trying to figure out what to do next weekend or the weekend after that? Bored of staying on campus every weekend? Maybe you didn’t know that Florida is the state that offers the most obstacle and mud race events in the country.

That’s right!  Mud runs and obstacle course races, also known as OCR events have taken over Florida during the past few years. These events welcome everyone from the experienced runner to the average Joe who just wants to have some fun while pushing his/her limits. The event usually consists of 15-20 obstacles spread out over a distance of three to four miles of trail running. Some people like to be competitive while others choose to take it easy and enjoy all aspects of the event including helping others to get past obstacles, meeting new people and having fun. Once you finish the 1-2 hour adventure, the party begins. Race directors usually put up live entertainment, as well as provide food and beverages.

These events can sometimes be costly, but social groups have popped up everywhere  to provide discount codes to an event. The group I am a member of a group called MudRunFun, based out of Palm Bay, Florida. This is also the largest group of mud runners in the country. So, if you want to see what is going on in Central Florida on weekends, go to mudrunfun.com and check it out.

For events nearby, check out “Survivor Mud Run,” “Life’s a Beach Triathlon,” “Romp in the Swamp,” “Savage Race” and “Baddest Mud Run.”  All these events take place in Central Florida.
