The Ultimate Guide to Pokémon Go at Florida Tech

If you stop and take a look around campus, you’ll notice various Florida Tech community members playing Pokémon Go. And not just students! Faculty, staff and visitors are trying to catch them all, too.

As it turns out, Florida Tech is a prime Pokémon Go hunting ground. Campus is full of Pokéstops and is home to two gyms.

Florida Tech Pokéstops

You can see groups of Pokémon Go players at Pokéstops on campus like the Chao Tsu-Yu Chinese Clock and wandering the Botanical Gardens. Here’s the list of all the Pokéstops on campus:

As of now, there are no Pokéstops at the Nathan M. Bisk building or at Panther Bay. But rest assured, you’re going to pass a few, and probably spot some Pokémon, on your way to these locations. So keep your trainer eyes open!

Pokémon Go Gyms at Florida Tech

There are two gyms to battle your fellow Pokémon Go players on campus: the Ruth Funk Center for Textiles Arts and the Link Building. Every time you open the app, it seems a new team owns the gym. Teams Mystic and Valor claim the gyms on most days and team Instinct can be seen from time to time. Pokémon seen defending the gyms include Snorlax, Exeggutor, Gyrados, and the various evolutions of Eevee.

Campus Pokémon

In all, there are 151 Pokemon you can catch. At Florida Tech, the common Pokémon tend to be, as you’d expect, common. Most often, you’ll see:

• Pidgey 
• Rattata
• Eevee
• Zubat
• Caterpie
• Meowth

Level up enough and you’ll start seeing more of Paras, Venonat and Jigglypuff. You can find these Pokémon scattered around campus, so do not be surprised if you come across more than one of them when you are walking around.

If you track Pokémon long enough, you’ll start encountering more rare species on campus. Students have caught Pinsir in Panther Bay and Pikachu in Olin. Rarer Pokémon like Wartortle, Voltorb, Bulbasaur and Ghastly have also been spotted on or around campus.
