Lifelong Learning Lecture: What Lies Behind the Eyes, April 12, 2018

Presented by Dr. Nasri Nesnas, the lecture explores one of our most dependable of the major senses — Vision. Without it, you would not be reading this sentence. Scientific research has come a long way from early fifth century BCE ideas that our eyes emanate rays onto objects, allowing us to see them, to the details of vision down to the molecular level. The journey of light traveling to the eyes followed by neuronal signaling to the brain will be discussed. The role of chemistry in learning about these discoveries will also be presented, along with the recent advances in using light to control the brain.
