Fall 2013

Hard to believe another academic year is upon us! Our summer schedules are almost a memory. I hope that we have all made some time to do whatever it is that refreshes us most, be it travel, hobbies, sports or spending quality time with family and friends.

Welcome faculty and staff to the 2013-14 academic year and a very special greeting to approximately 35 new faculty and new staff members, here for their first fall semester. We are very pleased to have you join our growing community and to show you what a special place Florida Tech really is. Now is an exciting time to be a Panther as we celebrate our 55th anniversary and inaugurate our first football season.

As the fall semester debuts, many building projects are newly finished. Fall marks the opening of our latest residence hall, Mary, Star of the Sea, a wonderful addition to our student accommodations as a project of the Newman Student Housing Fund. Also, the Link Building renovation is almost complete and this semester will mark the return of Department of Marine and Environmental Systems faculty and staff under one roof. Biomedical engineering joins DMES in what has been transformed into a very practical and pleasing work environment.

Did I mention football? We play Stetson at Palm Bay High School on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and plan a big tailgate party to celebrate the event. Also, we are thrilled that the home game against West Alabama Sept. 19 will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. ET.

The 2013-14 year promises to offer many exciting opportunities for our university. I wish everyone a great semester and hope you’ll join me at an athletic event, cheering on our Panthers. See you around campus.
