Florida Tech Ranks in the Top Ten When it Comes to Producing Interns.

We have good news! This month, U.S. News & World Report published the report, “10 Universities Producing the Most Interns,” and ranked Florida Tech among the top 10 in the nation. The report identified the schools that produced the highest percentage of interns among their undergraduate students as an indicator of career placement after graduation.

The work of our Career Management Services office has always been a source of great pride to me and to the university. It feels good to know that our opinion is reinforced by such a prestigious organization and we certainly want parents out there to know about this, too.

Florida Tech provides diverse internship opportunities all over the country. Our students intern at Microsoft, the National Security Agency, Google, NASA, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Local employers such as Harris, Northrop Grumman, Rockwell Collins, Piper Aircraft and many more appreciate the caliber of our students. Aviation majors have had experiences at Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and JetBlue as well as at many airports around the country. Biology majors go to SeaWorld, Walt Disney World and NOAA. Some students enjoy international internship opportunities as well.

The report also noted that with the growth of college graduates outpacing population growth by more than three-fold, those who seek employment immediately after graduation need to take extra steps while in college to set themselves apart from their peers. “The most logical step to take? Secure at least one internship before you graduate,” said the article.

Florida Tech was the smallest school named in terms of bachelor’s degrees awarded in 2008-09. The other nine were University of Pennsylvania, Colorado School of Mines, American University, Seton Hall University, Duke University, Fordham University, University of Pittsburgh, George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University.

I think we’re in some pretty good company. But, I think the other schools can say the same!
