To what degree does the GI Bill cover your school expenses?
The GI Bill Top-Up and Tuition Assistance programs cover approximately 2/3 of my expenses.
What prompted you to return to school?
I knew an advanced degree would help me to obtain a better-paying position, faster advancement, or a new career entirely. After reporting to NAS Patuxent River from a tour of duty in France in late 2011, I quickly discovered that Acquisition, Contracts and Program Management would be my future. Upon reading the brochure at the Navy College Office, I was intrigued that Florida Tech not only offered the program, but classes were also held on-base. I immediately signed up.
Was adjusting to campus culture a challenge after military life?
In the military, I’ve learned to adapt fairly easily to new environments and situations. Being flexible makes the transition less stressful.
What has your experience been like at Florida Tech?
Florida Tech is absolutely awesome! From the moment I walked through the door, I had no doubt I wanted to be a graduate of Florida Institute of Technology. The administrative staff and professors are a cadre of professionals willing to go the extra mile to ensure my success as a student.
Do you believe your military experience has made you a better student?
Definitely! I believe the discipline honed over the years has given me an edge, helping me to focus and maintain balance in this ever growing technological environment.
What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?
You can do whatever you set your mind to. Develop an Academic Road Map and know that there is support available to assist you.
The military has prepared you well to deal with challenges. Approach your education with the same dedication that you served your country with.Going back to school is the smartest investment you can make. The gains that you reap will pay dividends in your career, family, and personal lives.
