This is the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week (September 22nd-28th). This year’s tagline is “Discover what you’re missing.” The American Library Association, along with many other organizations, brings to light books that have been banned or challenged. Books are challenged for a variety of reasons including language, sexual content, religious issues, and disturbing or violent content.
Through Banned Books Week, the ALA hopes Americans will celebrate the freedom to read whatever they choose, without restriction. Books challenged in 2012-2013 include Ender’s Game, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, and Fifty Shades of Grey. Here is a complete list.
