Representing the ASC at NACADA

While many students wrapped up their Spring Break, academic advising professionals across the southeastern United States convened at Florida International University for the Region 4 NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) conference. Veronica Giguere, the ASC Associate Director, presented a session entitled “Advising to Make the Grade – FYE Assignments that Benefit Students and Advisers.” The presentation, available here along with the assignments and grading rubric, demonstrated Florida Tech’s unique first-year seminar model and the way that it brings advising into the classroom setting for first-year students.

With the recent incorporation of the Freshman Advising Center at Florida Tech, the use of assignments in the ASC 1000 course to push students toward their advisers demonstrates the ASC’s and FAC’s shared commitment to first-year student success.
